The C3H from Faratronic is a PCB-mount snubber capacitor for IGBT protection, designed to clamp the turn-off voltage spike and damp the ringing that the commutation-loop inductance produces. It sits directly across the switch, where its low equivalent series inductance is what makes it effective at high dv/dt, and its metallized polypropylene film with a resin-filled, self-healing construction absorbs a transient safely and has excellent flame-retardant behaviour. The series covers about 0.047 uF to 9.0 uF at 630 Vdc to 3000 Vdc, with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 or 10 percent, over a temperature range of minus 40 to plus 85 degrees Celsius. Those values suit traction converters, motor drives, induction heating, welding equipment and high-voltage power supplies, where a single overvoltage event can destroy an expensive module. The PCB terminals keep the capacitor close to the module and the driver, which is the shortest path for the snubber current and therefore the lowest-inductance connection.
